Cutting, Draping, Patterning

Here you will see photos of draping and patterning projects I did over the span of four months. I started with no experience draping or patterning any pieces and finished with a fully draped, patterned, cut, and built half-form dress. In the early photos, you will see a few different style bodices. I began from the baseline and worked up to the intricate dress.

The following are examples of crafting and costuming projects…

***Millinery***

Orange Geographic Hat – This is my latest project in millinery. It was slightly less complicated base wise, as we wanted to be resourceful and use a hat that was no longer needed. I cut and shaped the base of this wicker hat, and then the majority of the project was working to manipulate the fabric in a way that created the shape we were looking for. The project most time consuming part of this project was cutting and orienting the fabric due to its geographic pattern. I added the final touches, and it was completed! for – The Government Inspector, Costume Designer – Grace Chauvin.

Green & Rose Hat – This is my second project in millinery. I spent five weeks building this hat from the base to the final project. I cut the buckram, wired the pieces, wrapped it, cut the fabric, attached it, and added the finishing touches. I really enjoyed having the floral lining. Considering the placement of this style hat for its period, it works really well framing the face with roses with a complimentary green for the outside. Overall, I was very happy with the final product.

Orange Floral Hat – This hat was my first project in millinery. It was built for Sunday in The Park with George (OCU School of Music 2023). Our cutter/draper assisted me when I had questions. I covered the hat base with the fabric and attached the additional accessories.
